Handbag handles

Good morning

Another question from me! I’m making the handbag cake and don’t think I have any posy picks for the wire to go into to – I’ve got white florist wire from my cake supplier wrapped in florist tape. Am I ok to insert directly into the cake or is there another option? I thought about using straws?

Thank you so much I’m really pleased you like it! Paul’s tutorials are brilliant! You were a great support and I am really grateful. The other bits and pieces I made a few weeks prior so they had lots of time to dry out.

It would be amazing to see my cake on Paul’s face book page but not sure if its quite good enough – I’m my own worst critic! Will just have to wait and see!

Thank you again xx

Hello Taniajf

If you don’t have the posy picks you will need to use straws because wires directly into cake is not allowed.
There’s an answer here which may help:

Posy picks

If you don’t have any royal icing made up, roll some sugarpaste into thin tappers and pack into the straws. This is just to keep the wires from flopping around. Keep the straws longer than the wire so there’s no chance the wire can accidentally slip down into the cake.
Hope this helps.

After searching my store cupboard I found some picks so all done. Thank you!
On another note I’ve used squire kitchen QFC essentials confectioners glaze on the black detailing of the cake – I’m not doing the hearts on the bag just leaving it plain – is it possible to use this glaze for the whole cake as well? Just to give it a shine and a clean as its a bit patchy in places from icing sugar. Wasn’t sure if it was completely edible or not or if it will effect the flavour. ?

0

I think that’s a confection’s glaze and cleaner, I shouldn’t think that would be suitable for an all over glaze. This is what Paul uses http://www.squires-shop.com/uk/product/pme-edible-glaze-spray-100ml
The can must say clear glaze as it does come in different colours. You may be able to get it cheaper from other suppliers.

Oh I see – it is edible tho isn’t it? It’s the one you gave me the link for a few days ago – I have that spray so ill give it ago – I’m not very confident with a spray!

0

Oh yes it’s edible, it does say so but I wouldn’t use it a whole cake because it could end up taking the colour off and taste a bit funny. I use for it cleaning my brushes. Be careful with the spray, don’t get the can too close to the cake because it can cause runs. The instructions are on the can. It always comes up lovely and smells really nice too.

0

Thank goodness for that! I thought I was about to poison everyone!

i will give the spray ago tomorrow. the black does look lovely and shiny with he glaze and the cake looks a little matt – I have heard about rubbing a little trex over to give it a little shine?

0

I’ve never used trex for this purpose. I have a feeling it may make the sugarpaste a little soft. The spray on the other hand not only gives the cake a lovely shine and cleans off any unsightly icingsugar marks but it also helps to set the colour beautifully. I love how it smells, everynow and then you’ll get this sweet waft!
I’m so happy for you that you’ve come to a good conclusion. Next step, delivery! Be stress free now and enjoy. x

ps remember not to hold the spray can too close to the cake, spray a little at a time until you’re happy with the result. A bit like hairspray!

Just wanted to say thank you again – cakes all completed and looks great I’m really pleased with it. Couldn’t have done it without you

You could also ask her to post it on Paul’s facebook, he loves members to share their creations.
So pleased for you. Well done! I hope your daughter has a wonderful birthday, she has a lovely mum.
I’m preparing for a christening and wedding, ha! xx

I’ve sent the photo to Danielle and asked her to send it to you. The cake went down a storm today and everyone loved it.

Good luck with the Christening and wedding – that sounds like an awful lot of work!!!

I’m sure Danielle will send your pics on to me in the next few days. I never doubted the success of your cake.

I’m doing the ‘in the night garden’ characters christening cake in March. I did one in November, now the sister of the mum wants the same for her little boy! I’m not good at making models so have to get a head start now! The wedding in May will be straightforward, four tiers with lace and roses which won’t be stressful, just have to get the roses made up and stored, less to do later! Thank you for your good luck wishes.
You have a rest now xx

Hi – just to see if you received the email with the photo of the bag I sent to Danielle.

I haven’t received anything from Danielle as yet, I’m sure she will do when she is less busy. I’ll let you know in this thread when it arrives. x

Hi Tania

Danielle has kindly emailed me the photograph of your beautiful handbag cake which you made using Paul’s tutorials as a guide. Paul is a fantastic teacher and you are a very talented lady. I love all the other little accessories which are featuring alongside the main’event’. You should be proud of your work. I do hope your cake is posted on Paul’s facebook for everyone to see. I don’t know why you would think it wasn’t good enough!! Congratulations on an excellent job done.
Thank you for your lovely kind words of appreciation but you did all the hard work! Wow and respect!! xx
