Shorting

What is shortening first time here new member also new to cake decoration
Can I make shorting my self I can not find it in shops.
Also when trying to make Roses the royal icing seems fine then runs into runny blob

Shortening is white vegetable fat, in the UK it is known by several brand names eg trex, cookeen.

Your royal icing appears to lose it’s consistency while you are piping. How are you making it, which recipe are you using?
