Spinning DJ Turntable cake!

HELP! I have to make a dj turntable cake that can SPIN. So the customer wants the record to spin. Any ideas on how to do that? I’ve just went ahead and ordered a spinning display turntable from amazon because that’s probably what i will use in the cake but I have no idea how to get the wiring through the cake and also how can I switch the turntable on and off when I want? Do I need a button somewhere on the board?

Please help with any ideas you have! I have never done any cake that has spinning feature in it so ANY advice regarding the on/off …and hiding it in the cake will help tremendously!

Hi Sara ljaz

Several members including myself have used an electric turntable for Paul’s carousel cake tutorial. You’ll find the link in the following thread: http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/carousel-cake-with-lights
The link is in the first answer given by member chefdan. The turntable plugs into an electrical wall socket and can be supplied with the type required for the buyers country. This eliminates the need for wiring as the cake sits immediately on the turntable, plug in and spin!

To make a battery run turntable you would need to rigg up all the components on and under the board to conceal any wiring. Nothing must go inside the cake. Have a look at Mayen’s rocket cake tutorial for ideas:

How to Make a Rocket Cake

There are more ideas and howto’s here:
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=how+to+build+a+battery+run+turntable&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=lTEKV4CwNYbgaYu3q9AK

Hope they help.

Thank you for the response! I will look the options you’ve mentioned above to get an idea but the thing is I don’t need the whole cake to spin (which in that case I would use a turntable just under the cake). I need only the record on the dj turntable to spin and also be able to switch it on and off when I want. Here is a youtube video of exactly what my customer wants. Please take a look at this:

After seeing this video please let me know if you have more ideas on how to get the turntable inside the cake. I have an 8″ diameter turntable.

Hi Sara

I’ve scoured the internet for a step by step tutorial for your cake but unfortunately I don’t see one which walks through all aspects of your request. This one attempts to go through the wiring process:
http://www.sweetdreamscakeapp.com/2015/11/13/spinning-record-player-cake-tutorial/
… possibly the video tutorial by Sharron’s take here:
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=how+to+make+a+spinning+record+dj+cake&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&
I expect you’ve already looked through google images, if you haven’t, there are a few more which may help. I think the wires would have to be incapulated in straws or food grade plastic plumbers pipes. Please do have a look at Mayen’s rocket cake tutorial, she has some great ideas for how to conceal wires, add switches and lights.

Let us know how you get on.
