Adding a Slide to a cake

I’m making Paul’s Igloo cake for a Cats Charity Christmas Fayre and am replacing the penguins with cats. I would love to add a slide to the side of the cake down onto the board. I have a 9inch round cake as the base with a 5inch cake as the Igloo on top. I’m also using a 13inch board to try out an Arctic water with iceberg theme! It would be great to have a cat on the slide, has anyone any ideas on what to use and how to make and add a slide. Thanks, Sue

Hi sueandbella

I think the easiest way would be to roll out a length of gumpaste and dry it over a rolled tube like a kitchen roll insert. You could also use flower formers similar to these http://www.craftcompany.co.uk/equipment/foam-pads/petal-and-leaf-former-by-jem-set-of-3-assorted.html or make your own with several thickness of foil.
Found this http://www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com/coolest-water-slide-birthday-cake-7.html as a possible guide.
I’m sure other members will offer up some more ideas. A cat sliding down the igloo sounds fun!

Thank you, I will have a look at the sites and have a go – the cat sliding down the igloo is a great ideal too! x
