art deco wedding cake

Hi Gurus, Delighted to be making my son’s wedding cake in December. His beautiful bride has chosen a cake based on the staircase within their art deco venue. Seems pretty simplistic, except for the wall feature that curves round the outside of the the “staircase”. I am assuming I would use a good florist/modelling paste, but wanted to double check if there is something else I should use?

Many thanks

Hi Lou

Florist paste should work fine but if you want something stronger and quicker drying pastillage is another medium to consider. Only problem with pastillage is, it has to be worked with pretty quickly. For recipes and video tutorials on how to condition and work with this medium once made just google ‘pastillage recipes’ .
Pastillage powder can be bought online, more help and information here:

Good luck with your son’s wedding cake, sounds lovely! x
