Baby cradle cake

I am making the baby cradle cake as a small topper for a bigger cake. I’ve made it before using just a lump of sugar paste as the shape but was in a hurry and didn’t have much time for anything else.

I want to make the next version ahead of time…any suggestions of what I should use to make the shape – if not sugar paste?

Hi SJD

You could make the baby shape from rice krispy treats or a lump of modelling chocolate or even a piece of cake. Sugar paste seems to be the quickest option though.

Hi,

if it is of any help, rather than make a separate cake I used Marion Frost cutters, the 3D cradle one and placed it on the top of a cake. I used flower paste. You can add baby and blankets to it using flower paste or fondant. They are a bit fiddly to do but worth the effort. And the recipient has something to keep afterwards.
