Barbie cake help needed

Hi all, I am new here and need help. i have a few question I am making a barbie cake next week and would like to follow the tutorial on here . I noted that paul used a 8x 10 cake, can I use Paul’s moist chocolate cake for the barbie cake ? will it hold up carving? ,also I don’t have a 8×10 inch pan can I use one 10 inch square will I have the same height. how rich is this cake? the cake is for a five year old and I am worried it may be too rich for kids. any help will be appreciated.

Hi pixxy76

Welcome to the site, you’ll find everyone here is very helpful and you’ll have a great time.
Paul’s moist chocolate cake is very rich, is it possible you could make a small trial cake to try for taste first? You can decide then whether you think it is too rich for children. The cake is fine for carving, however it is very moist and you’ll get better results if you freeze it first. A 10″ square can be cut down to 8 x 10 for the Barbie, there will be a small amount left over which could be made into cake pops or just enjoyed with a cuppa. I would advise you to read the many comments this recipe has attracted, there are some very useful hints and tips to help you get the best results. You can see the comments in popular questions ‘Paul’s moist chocolate cake’ my feed back and ‘Paul’s chocolate cake – timings’. If you need to convert the recipe, you’ll find a ready reckoner and the cakeometer here http://www.cakeflix.com/blog/how-to-work-out-what-size-cake-tin-to-use. The original recipe is set for a 10″ square cake. Hope this helps and your bake goes well. x

Hi, I have tasted this cake and it is really nice, a real chocolate hit…I have 2 grandchildren and if it helps they are not impressed with it. I feel it is an adults cake. I make my Grandchildren vanilla sponge coated in white chocolate ganache. They love it. They are 5 years and 18 months. Hope this helps.

Hi there – I am doing one soon too – I managed to get some Cindy type dolls from Poundland – only ‘cos the 99p shop didn’t have any!!! As they are wrapped in cling film anyway, does not matter! Good luck!
