Royal icing can definitely be used to create a brilliant white drip. If you don’t want the icing to harden right up, add a very tiny amount of glycerin to it. Normally the amount is 1 teaspoon to 450g of icing. If you don’t mind it hardening up, use as made.

Alternatively, you could use brilliant white candy melts which can be obtained, either online from various cake decorating suppliers, or from your local Hobbycraft store. PME and Wilton brands are examples. However, at this difficult time of lockdown, it will be easier to use royal icing.
