cake mixes

Hi all
I know that the supermarkets stopped stocking the wrights cake mixes and people were having to buy direct online from their website. Iv just been to my local asda and found chocolate fudge, madeira and the carrot on their shelves. Have never baked a cake mix before, always made cakes from scratch but will give these a try and see how they turn out. Could be a good stand by for when those unexpected visitors turn up! If anyone finds the toffee mix in a supermarket please let us know. Thanks

Hi JustJennys cakes

Wrights have re packaged the mixes they are no longer in the familiar little orange sacks so you might have missed them on the shelf. Last time I was in Sainbury’s they were showing a full compliment of the mixes although some of their stores are limiting the madeira and carrot mix. If you have an Aldi or Lidle you may find them there. I always make a mess of mixes and like you bake from scratch. I tried the madeira two years ago, was pleasantly surprised and posted on the site in ‘Toffee cake’. Since then I gave the chocolate fudge and toffee a try, I have to say for a mix they are first class. If you want to adapt them for wedding cakes you’ll find lots of information on their site (I sure you’ve already looked, but just in case …)

Hi MIWL
Yes I have looked on the Wrights site in the past and its full of useful imformation.
The Asda I went to this morning never used to stock the cake mixes only the bread mixes. I tried a local Llidl and they didn have any. We only have a small Sainsburys here but next time near a bigger store ill take a look and see if they stock them. Im pretty sure you can order them online from there too. Thankyou for your feedback on the quality of the cake mixes, that’s so nice to know in advance of baking with them. I actually bought two of the chocolate fudge and only one each of the others to try because I know that the chocolate one will go pretty fast in this household, specially if its good! Ill bake them over the weekend and let you know. Thanks for the imfo x

Hi Just Jennys Cakes

The Wrights cake mixes are great if you are short of time and can be made really quickly with great results every time. For the toffee cake mix I brush on toffee sauce (the kind used for icecream and it makes it moister and I get a lot of compliments for this cake. I buy them in Lidls or a larger Sainsburys. Good luck in finding them – they’re really worth it.

I found all 3 flavours on occasions on Aldi 79p, Morrisons have the toffee and chocolate fudge, Madeira sells out very quickly 89p, Sainsburys all 3 but were £1.69 each!

In a mid December Aldi will be having a promotion, keep an eye out for it.

Thanks everyone for the imfo. Gracecay the toffee sauce spread on the cake sounds lovely and I will certainly try that when I get hold of the toffee cake mix. NannaAnnie Ill try and get up to Aldi and Morrisons this weekend, the price is definitely attractive. I paid 1.59 today for mine, so quite a saving if I can get them from Aldi. MIWL ill be looking out for those promotions thankyou.

I used the toffee mix to make a Halloween pumpkin cake and have to say it was amazing. As you cut into it the great smell of toffee oozes out and the taste is just as good. I too used a toffee sauce lightly spread over after filling with ganache to halo the fondant stick. Aldi do have these but only on occasion and I tend to but a stash when I see them xx

Thankyou ladies! wow I have made muffins from the chocolate fudge, ginger and toffee cake mixes and they are lovely! I went to a larger sainsburys over the weekend and found all the flavours on their shelves. I did add some chopped stem ginger to the ginger mix which gives it more of a kick I think. I know what my husband will say when he tries…”wheres the custard” lol. Good stand by to have for family when time is short. Thanks x

And the Madeira makes a fantastic coffee cake. I forgot to say I did try the ginger and also added stem ginger but never got to try it. My hubby took it off on a sailing trip to the Channel Islands, the guys gobbled it up on the first day!!
