Does anyone know if Paul had a tutorial for a camper van, I thought I saw one here before but can’t find it now.

Hi Tracy

There isn’t a camper van tutorial yet but there is the VW open top car which you’ll find in the novelty cakes category.

I made a camper van recently – worked from a photograph and was quite chuffed with the result! I had never done anything like it before – in fact this was only about my 6th decorated cake ever! I am happy to send you photographs if that would help?

Basic outline….

I made two sponges in bread tins. Put them together (one on top) with butter icing in between and then roughly shaped it – rounded edges on the roof and down the corners and a slant on the top cake to make the windscreen.

I covered the top half with white fondant icing and then the bottom with green. I cut little black squares and stuck them on the front, sides and back for the windows and painted a couple of windscreen wipers on with silver colouring. Wheels were black flattened balls with a wee white flattened ball on each. I put a wee sausage shape around the front and back at the bottom for the bumper and some tiny lights on the front and back. The VW sign I cut free hand – very fiddly but with silver paint on it looked the part! Hope this helps!
