Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Chocolate cake recipe
I’ve noticed that several people on here have asked others to help out with chocolate cake recipes. Since there is such an interest for chocolate cake, would it be possible for Paul to post a good chocolate cake recipe for the users of his site?

After we sold our bakery we found it more cost effective to buy our cakes in from our local bakery. The cakes we are using for the videos are all from the Puratos Chocolate Satin Creme pre-mix. They are very moist, taste great and perfect for cake decorating.
Not for the purist, but a sensible business decision.
As part of our forthcoming overhaul of the free section we are looking at scratch recipes that are suitable for cake decorating and have the taste and texture to match. It will take time as Paul’s the only baker in the team and he will need to make them from home. Will keep you posted and thanks for the heads up.
Thanks David, that’s informative and something to look forward to. xx
love the sound of the chocolate cake mix, how would I get that?

The mix Paul uses is from a company called Puratos. I’ve had a look at their site and I think they only sell to trade or bulk buys. Most mix suppliers sell large bags, too much for domestic style use, however, Wright’s cake mixes which are also oil based rather than butter, are very good. Personally I much prefer scratch cakes, but it’s up to individual taste. Btw Wrights mixes are available at most supermarkets, but they are very helpful if you contact them, just google for their address.
