Asda have 200g for £1.00 dark chocolate 50% cocoa solids, you’ll find it in the same aisle as normal eating chocolate. They also have specialty chocolate 70% for £1.00 for 100g. If you have a Lidle or Aldi store near you, they too have good chocolate for making ganache for 99p/£1.00 per 200g and the 100g bars for 35pence both dark and white.
Do you have anywhere you normally buy sugar paste or moulds online?
A lot of cake supply places also sell chocolate, I recently bought a 2kg bucket of Belgian chocolate buttons for not much more than I was spending on bars of chocolate in the supermarket.

I use The cake decorating company in Nottingham for the majority of my supplies because they have everything! Not always cheap though so I shop around in Surbiton Sugar Art, Cake Stuff, Windsor Sugar craft, sometimes in Amazon or ebay. I also use Sunflower Sugarart for their cutters and mould, I don’t think you can buy finer, again expensive, but worth the money. I expect other members will chime in with their favouite suppliers too. Your chocolate supplier link would be really useful, we have other Irish members who might benefit. If you’re in Southern Ireland postage might be a bit steep from mainland UK. I don’t suppose any of my suggestions for cheaper chocolate were helpful, I can’t remember seeing any of the main stream supermarkets in Ireland.
Thanks for your input Roshan, I’ll look up a few of those places over the next few days…I’m ordering a few bits and pieces for a cake I’m doing for a party next weekend.
Of course wouldn’t you know it, the place where I bought the 2kg tubs does not seem to be stocking them at the moment, darn it!
They do however have 1kg bags at €8.50 which to me is still cheaper than buying several bars in some of the supermarkets to make up that weight.

We do have Lidl and Aldi although I don’t get to them very often as they are not stores I can get to without making a special effort….buying online is just easier sometimes 🙂
I am in southern Ireland which can make buying from the UK a bit of pain when you consider how much you have to spend on delivery, I’m quite fond of The Craft Company and will order every now then…..I like their website and the service is excellent!
