complete novice

Hello all
As a complete novice to cake decorating i was wondering if i could get any advice on cake tins. Are there a few sizes which are most popular in recipes which i should get to begin with? And if so how deep should they be as i ve noticed some recipes say deep chocolate cake for example. Also i have to use the internet to buy them so are there any good sites anyone can recommend? Any help and guidance off experienced bakers will be greatly appreciated

Hi,

you will be looking for the standard 3″ depth i get mine from ebay, if you type in cake tins there is a few but you will want one with a good amount of ratings.

Lakeland heavy non-stick are brilliant but expensive unless you catch a promotion. My most used are 7″ square and 8″ round.

Hi Scarlett

If you go into blog and scroll down to comments on cake tins it may help you decide the type you want. Cake tins should be of a good quality. Heavy duty tins will not go out of shape and distribute heat more evenly. Don’t be taken in with lots of hype by the different brand names, everyone is obviously pushing their own brands and they can be very expensive. As a beginner buy the best you can afford, get something which is of heavy duty material and without a joining seam. Lakeland do a good line in cake tins and give helpful advice too. If you need more help please ask again.

Hi Scarlett

I would have to agree with the other about the Lakeland tins, they are brill and have a loose bottom.
They have an offer at the moment, but one get one half price.
