curved arch
I was wondering if there were any tutorials on how to make a curved arch as for a church. I saw the church cake tutorial but that was not a curved arch as I was looking for. I tried making one out of pastillage and molding it around a cake pan but it kept falling apart.
You could copy and paste the picture here. Try it and see if it works ?

You could use other materials like cardboard, wood, styrofoam or foam core with which to make the arch. As long as it is made food safe it is an acceptable way of attaching non edible pieces to cake. Free church arch templates can be download from the internet and cut out just as Paul has done in the church cake tutorial. Search in google for ‘free church arch templates. Lots more ideas on pinterest too, just search for church cake tutorials.
It really depends on how realistic you want the arch to look. Another way would be to pipe the shape with royal icing on some parchment paper, leave it to harden up then attach to the cake. with royal icing as glue. …. or roll out long logs of fondant and layer out the shape against a template to make the form. Leave it several days to dry until solid and attatch to the cake with either royal icing, ganache or melted white chocolate/candy melts.
Take a look for more ideas on any of the castle tutorials and also the cottage cake. If you could post a picture of what is required, it would give me a better idea of other suggestions to give. 🙂

I already made the cake for last weekend without the arch (I just posted a pic on cakeflix cake community), just a flat curved edifice for the front but I was curious for the future.

That is one very interesting building! I’ve been searching for templates without much success but I will find something eventually which you might find useful in the future. When I do, I’ll post back in this thread, it may take a little time.
Unfortunately, I haven’t seen your picture on the community page. I’ve looked out for it but can’t see it.
