Doweling a dummy cake ??

Hi. I am making a wedding cake using a 12in dummy on the base, topped with a 10in fruit and 8 & 6 inch sponges. Do I need to dowel the dummy ??

Hello fancycakes12

It isn’t really necessary to dowel the dummy but as a safety precaution it may give you peace of mind. You don’t need to use the nine dowels, just use the five and it will be fine. For more information on how strong dummies are, take a peek here:

Thanks for that madeitwithlove. Was just a bit bothered that although the fondant covering the dummy is fairly thin that it might give way but I guess it would only be very slightly if at all.
Thanks again very helpful. xx
