Is EdAble Art glitter safe to use as a decoration on cakes?

Hi

I am confused regards the FSA and glitter.  Is EdAble Art glitter (Co.Durham) safe to use as a decoration on cakes, not just on removable decorations but on the whole cake?

Hi folks, my supplier has informed me that only Edable Art has had the certification, named as “declaration of compliance”  from the food standards agency, she advises that only Edable Art dust is safe for eating and Rainbow  Dust for decorations that will be removed.

Hope this helps

The EdAble Art glitter is splitting the cake decorating world in the UK at the moment. It has been reported to be non-edible, but they have gone to great lengths to prove that its inert so therefore non toxic and not harmful. As things stand the FSA have not clarified the position which is leaving everyone to draw there own conclusions. Our view is that its fine for removable decorations, but until the FSA clarify the position it would be down to individuals to decide whether they want to use it as edible decoration.

Hi Paula, Im sure Paul had a statement on his facebook page that Edable art had received the go ahead  from the FSA that it was safe for food use.  Has this changed since then?

Hi

Thanks for all the help.

I spoke with EdAble Art  today and they said it is fine to use directly on the cakes and they have FSA approval. They said they would send an email confirming this!

Phew!

Hi pam01,  have you received the email from EdAble Art yet?  If so could you maybe post a copy of it on here please?

I contacted them to ask what it was made of.  They said plastic. It is not absorbed by the body and passes straight through but I still don’t like the idea of putting it on items to be eaten.

My edable art glitter has a use by date on it. I’ve stopped using it unless I’m asked specifically for it then I get the custOmer to sign to say they understand the fsa information and are happy for the go ahead to use it. I bought some from cupcake world that says its truly edible, it’s no where near as sparkly it looks like very fine coloured sugar

Hi pam01, did you ever get that email from EdAble Art?

Hi Susansteele21, Paul’s comment about the product is on his facebook 14 April.

Does this help?

try this, go to http://www.rainbowdust.co.uk and click on certification awarded

Hi Jayess, I’m sure that the Rainbowdust certificate relates to decorations to be placed on the cake.  I think what Pam01 was asking was is it safe to use on the actual cake itself that is going to be eaten.  She says that she was told by EdAble Art that it was and they would send an email confirming. Not too sure about this and this is why I was asking if she had received the email from EdAble Art because I would be interested to read it.

Hi susansteele21, having re-read everything I believe you are right.  I can’t see FSA approving any actual glitter for anything that is not removed from  the cake.  Shame but we don’t want to poison anyone,  :0)

Just wanted to add this on so anyone googling will not be tempted to use these products.
EdAble Art Ltd glitters are not edible in case you have some in your cupboards still .
