Electric Blue Shoe

Hi, I have to make a bright electric blue shoe (a mid blue, not light) so it looks like shiny satin and can’t seem to find a way of making the colour bright enough. What would you advise me to use in terms of colours and finishes as I can’t see anything available that might work. Many thanks.

Hi suzyq

Americolor make electric blue soft gel colour as seen here:
http://www.thecakedecoratingcompany.co.uk/electric-blue-americolor-soft-gel-paste-food-colour-075oz

I’m not sure whether this colour is permitted for use on edibles in the UK. It is FDA approved but if you’re based in the UK please read the additional information provided by the Cake Decorating company or contact them via their live chat or message box which appears in the bottom right hand corner of their site.
To make the satin finish you would need to use a blue lustre.
Have a peek here for am appropriate blue:

Also have a look at other brands like Sugarflair and Rainbow dust.

I hope you can find something suitable, however if you need more assistance just post again. x

Hello Suzyq
I wonder if you tried glidesol then a blue lustre

Thanks for your response. Looking at the Americolours, on the face of it the Royal Blue looks a better colour for what I’m after but the Cake Decorating Company doesn’t stock this. As the shoe won’t get eaten, it should be OK to use. If I use the Electric Blue, how best would I use one of the lustre dusts without leaving streak marks from brushing? Thanks again.

Suzq I like using the Cornflower blue by Sugarflair which is a powder. The colour will stand out even more once steamed and dried. I find it to be a lovely deep blue. Once the colour is dry the luster dust will not streak when applying. Hope this is of help.

Thanks Candy1, I will take a look at that and I’m guessing they may stock this at my local shop. The only problem with the Internet is not being sure how true the colours are once you get them. Cheers.
