Filling for chocolate cake

Can anyone suggest a filling which is not chocolate filling to go with Paul’s moist chocolate cake?

Hi 3Sweetcakes

Will you be using buttercream instead? Lots of flavours go with chocolate, try orange, mint, raspberry, cherry, blackcurrant, blackberry. All these flavours can be incorporated into buttercream. I bake the moist choc cake a lot. For our own eating, we don’t have a filling, just some lovely fruit puree. The cake is so moist, it doesn’t really need too much of anything. Unfortunately if the cake is for a customer it can’t be filled with fresh fruit unless it is to be consumed within a couple of days. Fresh fruit tends to mould very quickly in cakes. How about something like curd? I very often use orange curd which I get either in Sainsbury or Waitrose. I was reading the other day about pudding mixes which some people use for cupcake topping (haven’t tried it myself!). Just a few suggestions, probably haven’t been much help but other members will chip in with ideas. x

If you really can’t decide I would suggest you don’t have a filling, I haven’t yet made or eaten the moist chocolate cake (I will one day) but I do think it would be perfectly acceptable without a filling.
