Fresh flowers direct into cake

I have been watching Charlys’ Cake Angels and their cakes are stunning!! Quite often I have seen the owner placing fresh flowers direct into the cake with the stem. Tney were roses..she removed the leaves and caylix.  The finished look was so striking. And would save hours of painstaking rose making!!

I am presuming this is food safe..otherwise she certainly wouldn’t do it and would have been closed down years ago. She didn’t seem to have wrapped e stem with anything either

Hi Gucci, it’s never good idea to place fresh flowers directly onto a cake. If fresh flowers are used the stems should be covered with floristry tape and placed in a posy pick which is inserted into the cake. Great caution should be take with fresh flowers as some are highly poisonous. There are many which are edible, (roses being one), but they have to be totally organic, chemical free. Fresh flowers also produce moisture so placing them directly onto iced cakes can cause damage.

Perhaps you could use a cake board between the fresh flowers and the cake, to eliminate any contamination or staining. Good luck.

I’ve never used fresh but you need to ensure that the flowers are not poisonous and wrap the stems with florist tape and a posy pic. For the likes of putting them in between a cake I would use a cake board underneath them and can secure them in a cake separator

I use foam flowers on mine. They look so life like that I’ve had people think that are real!
