Guitar Cake Help!!

Hi I have been asked to make a guitar shaped cake for a friends 21st birthday. I am ok doing the decorating of the cake, I am a bit stuck with what size and shape to start my cake which I can then carve to the guitar shape. I only recently started making cakes and still trying to find the best recipes to use to carve cakes. Any help would be greatly appreciated , Thank you xxx

Hello borderlass1

Paul has the guitar tutorial here http://www.cakeflix.com/online-cake-decorating-courses/guitar-cake which you could follow. If you go to the tutorial and go to the list of ingredients, you’ll see Paul used 10″ and a 5″ square cakes to carve out the shape. A good sturdy cake like chocolate or madeira would be best for carving. Paul has his chocolate cake recipe here http://www.cakeflix.com/online-cake-decorating-courses/free/moist-chocolate-recipe and another here http://www.cakeflix.com/blog/how-to-make-chocolate-mud-cake, this is a good vanilla cake recipe http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/10860/easy-vanilla-cake. Hope this helps. xx
