Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Gysophelia
Has anyone made any gypsophelia from sugar? The bride to be has asked for a lot of baby breath wired in with the flower she has chosen for all the tiers on her cake. She has a lot of gyp in her table arrangements and bouquets, which her florist suggested, although I do agree it looks lovely when fresh and brilliant white.
Silk gyp seems to be with plastic stems only. Fresh gyp only lasted a day once wired in with the flowers as a trial. I could either tape all the plastic stems which is a helluva job with so many stems or make some sugar ones.
Any advice would be appreciated please. Many thanks.

Hi amber
The flower itself is easy to make but you would need to make a heck of a lot of them,, plus wire and tape. It will take for ever and cost a fortune if you charge for your time properly. There are a couple of tutorials on youtube and here is a cheats way of making them. Even then, not sure if it really would save time! :
You could buy them ready made from online cake decorating stores. They are sold in bunches of 20 or so for anything between a couple of ££ to just over £6. Making them at home will cost more because you need to pay yourself a decent wage for your time. Consider that minimum wage is £6.70 an hour
Perhaps try and deter the bride by telling her how much it would cost her if you were to make them. It really will take a long time. Please have a peek at the tutorials in youtube to get a idea of how long you’ll be spending making these tiny flowers. I agree that they are lovely but you have to think of yourself.
