how long will an iced cake last?

Hi all,

I am making the birthday cake for my grandaughters 2nd birthday, but I have so much to do including cupcakes and catering for the party, that I need a little advice on how long before the day I could make the cake and how to store it. Any help at all will take the presure off, as I’m doing it all by myself, the catering is easy I’m used to doing that, just need a little help with the cake and storage.

Thank you

Hi shades

Depends which type of cake you’re baking. Most sponge cakes are fine for five or six days providing you haven’t got any fresh cream or cream cheese fillings. An answer here may help http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/shelf-life-storage and if you type in the above search box ‘shelf life’ there are lots of other answers which are relevant to cake storage and shelf life.
Store the cake in a cardboard cake box and place in a cool room ( not in the fridge) away from strong smells.
