Making a figure for a cake topper

Hi all, I’ve been asked to do a cake in a hip hop style. Got all my ideas for the icing and decorating but I’ve been asked to do a figure in the style of a break dancer. Would inserting florist wire into the arms and legs be stable enough to hold the figure in shape as he wants it to look like he’s dancing.?
Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Hi Donnascake

I made a hip hop man last year and used 20 gauge wire. doubled over and twisted around itself to make it more solid. I found it hard inserting the wire because of the twisting, so I flattened out some gumpaste and rolled the wire into it until completely concealed leaving enough wire exposed to insert into the body of the model. Took ages to dry. I hope you’re getting my description. I just shaped it in the pose I wanted. You have to be quite firm with it but be careful the gumpaste doesn’t start to crack. It will no longer be edible figure so you’ll have to let the customer know it contains wires.
