Making animals out of sugar paste

Hi,
I have been asked to make a standing figure of Talking tom & Angela. Does anyone have an idea where I can get information on making these figures.
Thanks

Hello ninahashim

Since you posted your question I’ve been searching to no avail. There doesn’t seem to be any tutorials or ‘how tos’ on these creatures. I have found this http://giovannascakes.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/iphones-tom-angela-cake.html it’s not a tutorial but they are made from gum paste!! Might just give you an idea how to start. I’ve also sat down and made both the figures as a little experiment. They’re both quite easy to make and Paul has several animal tutorials which will be good guides for shaping paws, ears, heads and claws. I made simple figures, a square shape for tom, cut him in the centre to make legs, smoothed off the edges and turned up the bottoms to form his feet and made claws. See the dinosaur tutorial on how to make claws here http://www.cakeflix.com/dinosaur-cake-lesson-5-spikes-and-claws Shaped the middle very slightly by stroking the waist area then made arms and stuck them on, for his head follow any head tutorial to shape the cheeks. For Angela I used the bride tutorial http://www.cakeflix.com/bride-and-groom-lesson-1-bride made the cone shape and cut in the middle to form and shape legs and paws, the upper body of the bride is also a good guide for Angela. For big eyes use Merida tutorial http://www.cakeflix.com/merida-from-the-film-brave-lesson-4-making-the-head which will help with both characters and will also be useful for Angela’s mouth. To have them standing up I think you will have to insert dowels or wires in the legs unless you make them laying down then stand them up when dry. Secure onto a board with Royal icing as I don’t think white ganache will be strong enough to hold them up. Texture the fur by either using the dresden tool or use a garlic press to make strands of fondant and attach to their bodies, blend again using the dresden tool. Wow this has been really long winded, I’m sorry I can’t help more. Oh by the way I’m useless at making models and found the characters easy to make, I hope this gives you some encouragement.
