Need to make a footballer

I’m making a square cake with a half football on it (dome on top basically) and I wanted to do a footballer running over the cake…all this and I have never made anything with sugar paste other than the santa tutorial which I followed this week, but he’s sitting down. Is it possible to do a standing up person in sugarpaste?!

Any help on how I make the round hemisphere dome look like a football would be good too 🙂

Thank you! Joe

Hi Joe, it is possible but you will need to have one leg straight with a support running down through it into the cake. To make it look natural I would have them leaning forward with the ‘straight’ leg at an angle to the cake and then the other leg further forward and bent. I hope that makes sense, it would be easier to draw it. I normally use spaghetti for support but in this case I would go with a bamboo skewer!

Hi JoeB

You can also use 20 gauge florist wire and then bend and shape the legs as you want your model’s stance. If you have a look at the brown handbag tutorial you’ll see how Paul makes the bag’s handles, this would be the same technique. If you can’t insert the wire, roll it in the gumpast until the wire is enclosed. Don’t allow the wire to poke out of the bottom of the legs because it must not come directly in contact with the cake.
