Open lid Tiffany box cake

Hi all,
I am making a Tiffany gift box next week for family birthday, it is to sit on the main cake so won’t be massive but need to make the lid open slightly so that there is some tissue paper coming out of it. My questions and worries are:

Is it easier to make the lid out of royal icing and tylo or cake? If icing and tylo how far in advance do I need to make it?
How do I make the lid stay slightly open? Does the lid have to sit on a cake board? If so how do I cover it?
Do I need to add tylo to the white icing to make the tissue paper or is icing on its own ok?

Please help any advise will be very greatly received!
Many Thanks!

Hi sophielouise

I can’t help with how to make the lid but if you go into YouTube
and search ‘how to make an open lid gift box’ Veena’s art has a tutorial. There are images and ‘how to’ tutorials in google. Hope this helps.

Hi i did the jewellery box that was featured in cake craft and decoration (Aug 2012 i think) I used flower paste and let it dry over a piece of sponge cut to the size of the lid you want
