Petals falling off wires

How do you stop flower wires from breaking through the flower paste or the petals totally coming off the wire?

Are you petals too thin? Or maybe you’re using the wrong size wire, perhaps a thicker wire will hold a bit more. You could also insert a hooked wire into a thin sausage of flower paste/gum paste prior to making the petal and then stick that onto the back of the petal. I’ve only just bought a grooved board and need more experience with it. Done 3 years of sugarcraft adult education classes and I was taught to do the sausage way. Hope that helps a bit.

I have a grooved board, but prefer to put a hooked wire in a sausages and roll either side of the wire then use a cutter.Odom,t find they fall off that way as long as the wired part is not too thin..try drying lying on foam rather than standing up in polystyrene block .if the flower paste is too soft it can collapse and fall off

Hi musicrach and hilaryb. Maybe my paste is too thin but before I think I was making it not thin enough!!! I always lay the petals on foam so that’s not the problem. Doesn’t the sausage system make the petals look ugly at the back?

Shouldn’t look bad if you roll it evenly.when you use the veiner it thins it out more evenly

Ok thanks. I’ll give it a go.
