Printed edible icing

Hi does anyone happen to know where I can obtain some printed edible icing. I need to cover a 3 tier round cake with it as the client has asked for skulls (!) which look like they’ve been airbrushed onto the cake. Its the only way I can think of doing it. Does anyone know if it is even possible to cover a full cake with printed icing? I’ve never tried it!

Hi diamondcakes

There are lots of companies who do them. Just google edilbe icing sheets and you’ll get lots of results. I think you may have a problem getting them big enough to cover a whole cake. Have you thought about bespoke chocolate transfer sheets? The Cake Decorating Company in Nottingham keep the printer icing, they also have transfer sheets and may be able to help. I know other members who have edible printers will advise.

Could you get/make a skull stencil and then use dust colours? I imagine that would give a similar look to airbrushing. Would love to see it when it’s finished!

Hi – Yes I am thinking of using a stencil, doodlecake, I think that maybe the way to go. Although I haven’t done anything like it before. I will give it a try!!
