Ribbon with pearl embillishment

Hi – I would like to pop a ribbon around my cake and have a pearl embillishment (like a buckle) in centre. Am I better to make a fondant ribbon and stick on a pearl centre-piece or use a fabric ribbon? What would be easiest and look best? Thank you

Hello Twinnietwo

There’s no reason why you can’t use fabric ribbons, some people prefer to do just that. I would recommend washing the ribbon first to establish colour fastness. Some ribbons can bleed colour onto the icing. I think either fondant or fabric is a matter of preference, best way is to experiment with both ideas and see which you think looks the smartest. I thought you might like to see this as well http://www.thehandcraftedcardcompany.co.uk/craft/111-buckle-embellishments.asp. Good luck deciding.
