Sainsbury’s Flower Paste

Hi everyone.

I was at the Cake International Show and have been a member for some time, but never used flower paste yet. My friend uses Squires to make his flowers, but I noticed that Sainsbury’s are now also doing Flower Paste (new to their range) and it is cheaper. I know that their icing and marzipan is good, so I was wondering if anyone had bought and used it? It only comes in white, but I could colour or dust it as needed.

Any help please???

Hello Meg A Bakes

I bought some today to try out, it seems ok, bit on the sticky side. I thought it was a little sugary to begin with but it kneaded through ok. I feel the Squires brand is a finer quality, will have to wait and see how my flowers dry out and how strong they are before I decide. It’s cheap enough and certainly worth a go.

I’ve never used Flower Paste myself but I did find a review if you want to have a look http://brittwhyatt.tumblr.com/post/47123806515/flower-modelling-paste-by-sainsburys

At that price you really should give it a try and see what you think of it 🙂

Hi,
I have used this modelling paste but not for flowers. Recently I have used it for a gate half squires florist paste and half Sainsbury’s paste my gate has dried hard and I manged to get a wood grain pattern on it.. I would recommend it for this sort of thing.

Kind regards, Ozzym

Hi Meg A Bake

I said I would let you know how my flowers turned out with the Sainbury’s flower paste. I made some Icelandic poppies and used my new veining mats which I bought from Sunflower sugar art at the show. So far so good although not as fine as the Squires. I think it’s a good economical paste for practicing flowers but I wouldn’t use it for very delicate pieces. Thank you for sharing your find with all of us. x
