Sattina nightmare!

Trying to use this for the first time after reading good reviews! Trying to cover a double barrel ganache coated cake. It is splitting around all the edges at the top and leaving me with just the top of my cake covered. There is no stretch or give to this icing and just noticed in the ingredients there is no gum trag added. I have just purchased two 1 kg tubs. Not happy and not sure what to do about trying to cover my cake.

So sorry to hear that you’re having problems. Like you I’ve heard great reviews about this paste.
I’ve had a quick look at the Cake Craft World site to see whether there was any information but the ingredients does list gum trag as an ingredient here http://sattina.co.uk/

Try kneading it really well so it’s warm and pliable before applying it. If you can’t get it to drape over for icing how about using the wrap around method.? Look here for a really good tutorial:

For more advise about Sattina the best people to ask are the producers of this paste at link I posted above.
They’re really lovely people and I know they will be able to help.

Hope you got it sorted, nothing worse than last minute disasters (: I use Sattina regularly in the bright colours and have used it for double barrelled cakes with no issues but I do find you can’t roll it as thinly as cake stuff couture or massa ticino though as it is a much softer paste and not as “tough” so does need to be rolled to about 4-5mm. Probably not much use to you now but may help for future x

The ingredients listed on the tub don’t have gum trag. I couldn’t use the Sattina I gave up. Luckily I had some Massa paste. I also found that the Sattina tasted of the plastic wrap bag that it came in. Not good!
