Sattina

Hi guys
Not a question but just thought I would tell you my experience of using this new sugarpaste which I tried for the first time today.
I have weak wrists and struggle kneading and rolling out some sugarpastes. My favourite to date is satin ice. As a relative newbie I also struggle with the thickness. 5mm is ok but whenever I have tried 4mm I always have a nightmare.
Today I opened the box of sattina thinking it would be like most others. I was pleasantly surprised when it felt nice and soft. It was really easy to knead. At this point I was thinking it was going too well and rolling out would be a problem but no it was the easiest sugarpaste I have found to roll out.
I had an 8″ round 5″ high cake and I thought lets go for the 4mm to try it out as I have never managed to cover a cake well using 4mm thick (can’t believe the difference 1mm makes!)
I covered, smoothed and watched closely. WOW no tears no cracks just a really smooth cake. The best I’ve ever done.
Think I’m converted. Can’t wait to use their lovely pastel colours.

I’ve finally found a sugarpaste I like, I’ve tried lots from supermarket brands to covapaste on Friday I made a liverpool football shirt cake and covered it using sattina. This was the first time I used sattina and will now only use this the cake covered like a dream no elephant skin or tearing I even recommend it to a friend a work.

Just had a look at the Cake Craft site jb, and wow what a difference in price from the Satin ice! I use Satin Ice for all my special cakes and nearly coming to an end of my last tub. Like you I have weak wrists and also arms, if Sattina makes life easier it will be worth using. I see they have lots of colours and a real chocolate flavour too.
I was going to try Cova paste, I rolled some out at the cake show and found that was quite easy as well, however, I’ll try this first and see how it goes. Thanks for sharing your experience. x

Hope you like it. Will be interested in your feedback as you are more experienced than me. I have used covapaste but then found satin ice. The taste of covapaste is really nice very vanillary (if theres such a word).
Will have a slice of cake tonight and let you know the taste of sattina. Although must admit I really dont like icing!

I adore Sattina!!!! I was lucky enough to be given a tub to sample at Cake International. I love the vintage colour palette too. I used to use a 50/50 mix of Satin Ice and Regalice but I am now a Sattina convert. Wait until you try the chocolate one 🙂

Well! there’s an endorsement, will definitely get some now despite the steep carriage charges. Thanks Mish. x

I have been thinking of changing my sugapaste from Renshaws, and after reading these comments am dying to give it a go. Is it easy to colour or are you best to buy already coloured ? and its about the same price.
