Shoe cake

I’m making the jimmy choo shoe cake for an 18th birthday. As I’ve not done much modelling I thought I would have a go at the shoe. I really love it and think it looks fab. I haven’t yet attached the heel but want to try it but I’m not making the cake until mid April. Is it ok to attach the heel now or should I wait until I put it on the cake and if I do attach it now what’s the best way to store it until putting it on the cake? It’s so fragile I’m worried something will go wrong lol

I’ve got to make one for a birthday in May which I’ll make now heal as well and mount it on a small oblong cake card which will be covered in gold embossed icing. I’ll store it in a box until the birthday and place the whole thing on the box. I expect I shall have to have several goes because I really don’t feel too confident about doing it.

I’m sure it will be great x I never thought I could make something like that but just followed the tutorial and cannot believe how well it came out. In fact I keep looking at it and thinking wow did I really make that it looks just like a shoe lol.

Hi jb1958

I have made the shoe as well for a 50th birthday along with a handbag cake. I was really pleased with it but it is fragile and my first attempt broke (the angle of the heel makes it very fragile on the sole just above the toe area). It will keep for ages, I would imagine, in a cardboard box even with the heel on.

I haven’t signed up for any courses yet but I’d like to ask a question about the Jimmy Choo shoe itself. Are templates provided and what about the heel, do we have to shape it ourselves or is there a mould available?

Hi gina

There are templates provided so no moulds are necessary. Once you register on the online courses you’ll have access to the tutorial where you’ll see the ingredients and tools list, the templates can be found in tools here http://www.cakeflix.com/online-cake-decorating-courses/the-jimmy-choo-shoe-cake#templates. Hope this helps. x
