Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Silver cake tier
I am making my daughters wedding cake. She wants one tier silver. Grey fondant is not metallic enough. Has anyone ever painted with silver lustre dust and alcohol?

Hello Dknees
Painting grey fondant with silver lustre dust mixed with alcohol will achieve silver. The shade of silver depends how deep the grey is to begin with. I suggest you experiment on a flat piece of rolled out fondant, paint with the silver/alcohol mix to achieve the colour your daughter likes best. When you finally decide on the strength of colour, mix up plenty enough to give you a good coating. Nothing will be wasted if you have too much as when the alcohol evaporates, the lustre dust will dry and can be replaced back into it’s container for reuse.
Here’s a great little tutorial to use as a guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjKsyxTyx5c
Hope it helps.
