Sinking buttercream icing on cupcakes

Hi, not sure if there’s an obvious answer to this, but I have made some cupcakes and iced then using buttercream. They looked lovely when iced, then added a range of homemade toppers – was really pleased with how they looked. However, an hour after finishing them the icing had sunk, clearly a result of the warm weather. I was reluctant to put them in the fridge as in the past I have found that by doing this the cake papers/loaners come away from the cake. I would love to know how other bakers manage in hot weather.

Hi clan

You could make a stiffer butter cream so it holds up better or add some melted white chocolate to the BC.
