Toybox Cake

Hi All,
Hope you can help me. I’ve taken an order for a toybox cake, it’s not until the end of January so I can practice a bit but I wondered if anyone has any tips on raising the box off the board and also placing the toy box lid ajar over some modelling toys sitting in the box. I’ve seen some people using dowels and styrofoam for this but I’m worried about the stability of it. Here’s an example of something I’m trying to replicate.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi andromeda111

The are lots of images and some instructions of how to make a toy box cake. I wasn’t able to open the link you have set. To raise the ‘box’ of the board you could use small covered cake dummies in each corner to look like the feet, but the centre of the board would need support too. Here is one idea for keeping the lid open http://paintedacrescakes.blogspot.co.uk/2011/08/making-cake-with-open-lid.html found this as well http://sweetthings-toronto.blogspot.co.uk/2011/06/toybox-cake.html which kinda describes what I mean.

Thanks madeitwithlove, I’ve trawled the internet looking for instructions and yeah it seems that styrofoam is the popular way to go. The second link is very similar to the one I want to do. I’ll give it a go soon and see how I get on.
