I was asked to do a 2 tiered wedding cake for a small Easter wedding on Monday. Everything was fine until my order for the stacking plates fur using Grecian pillars has been delayed. It was supposed to be coming yesterday but didn’t arrive and it hasn’t turned up today there’s no other local suppliers who I can purchase this off in time. Can I use a cake card with dowels underneath to support the pillars. Bottoms a 10 inch sponge with buttercream (10 inch) and the one to go on the pillars is a 8 inch chocolate sponge cake with chocolate ganache. Any advice much appreciated l

Hi Scarlet how frustrating it must be for you! Yes, just make sure you have plenty dowels in the cake for support.

Thank you so much for this. I ve done quite a lot of stacked cakes and with separators but not pillars before which is why I wanted to do it all without worrying this way. Might sound silly but do I have to cut a hole in the card card for the dowel to go though then put the pillar over or can the pillars just sit on the covered card if that makes sense as long as the bottom cake is do welled properly

To make it sturdy and safe, make holes in the board and Yes, do make sure the dowels are at least 1″ above so that the pillars sit over it. How many pillars are you using?

Yes, I too would use that amount, but also extra dowels for the support of the top tier. Good luck!
