Using butter cream instead of ganache!

Hello
Just wanted to know that if I was to cover my cake with butter cream before decorating it do I do it the same way as I do with chocolate ganache? Do I cover then leave it in the fridge to firm and if so when I get it out from the fridge will the fondant stick to the cake or do I need to smoother it out with hot water like I do with chocolate? Please can anyone give me the answer!
Thank you

Hi herabegum

The technique would be the same except it may be better to dry the hot pallet knife first so your buttercream doesn’t get too wet. Buttercream doesn’t always set firm if it absorbs water.
