Wedding Cake Help

I plan to make my wedding cake in April 2014. I havent yet made a stacked cake and could use a little advise. My venue doesnt allow me to deliver it the day before, only in the morning so i will need to rely on a guest or family member tsking it there. What is best? Shoukd i avoid stacked altogether or take them in seperate boxes that can be stacked there? I am only having a small wedding so a two tiered cake us all we will be having. Since i bake i thoguht itwould be a real money saver but now the thought of getting it there in one piece is totally worrying me. Advice pleeease.

Hello Katiepool129

If you put in the search box ‘transporting wedding cakes’ you’ll see several answers (one from Paul) which may help. You can also buy extra strong boxes for transporting stacked cakes, eg have a look here http://www.craftcompany.co.uk/cake-boards/cake-boxes.html?gclid=CKSJkL21lrUCFSHHtAodH2kAnA.
It’s nerve wracking transporting stacked cakes but two tiers is fairly managable size and wouldn’t be too much problem. Follow Paul’s tutorials on stacking and take a repair kit (spare flowers, other decorations and a small piping bag of royal icing) to the venue in case of damage. Congratulations on your wedding and for making your own cakes. G’d luck.

Pre staked will be absolutely fine… I promise! Follow the tutorials from Paul and look at YouTube clips on how to stack a cake. If its a small cake a normal cake box the size of the base board should be strong enough. I always loosely cover the cake with clear polythene to protect it from dust, rain etc. but just for the journey time. If your relative or friend delivers the cake on the morning of the wedding the venue will usually set it up for you. However, go back to the venue and tell them that you are making your own cake and would prefer to deliver it night before, talk to the person who you’ve been liaising with the most, I’d be surprised if they say no again!

Thanks for your answers. I think since it is only two tiers we are having it should be fine to prestack. But no our venue will not accept cakes the night before and will not help with set up as they take no responsibility for anything we are organising ourselves. Its a bit annoying but I think we can work round it 🙂
