Wedding fare nerves

Hi all, I have just agreed my first wedding fayre – i have turned down two as I keep thinking i’m not good enough and that my cakes wont look good next to everyone’s fab displays. Does every one feel like this- is it just jitters. Am thinking of 3-4 cakes with a cake bouquet and some cake shot favors. is it best to show case the different items or should i just do cakes ?? sounds silly I know, hubby thinks im ready but i always think i could do better. Is everyone like this
cheers Sharon

I’ve just come back from a wedding fayre in a local hotel! I went to check out the competition and see how they set out their stalls, how many display cakes, sample flavours they had etc. Could you do the same? I can assure you that although the cakes were very beautiful none of them were perfect on close inspection. I took my 5 year old daughter and we had a great time watching the fashion shows and eating the free samples!

Hi Sharon

There’s a really good answer from David Brice on wedding fares, just type in the search box ‘First wedding fare’.
I think every one feels nervous when presenting for the first time. It’s only natural to be gittery because you won’t know other people and what kind of products they’ll have on display but your displays will be just as fab, just have faith. Good luck, you’ll be fine and tell us how you get on. x

I have very recently just gone through exactly the same thing! I was soooo nervous that when I got there and saw another cake stall I was ready to walk back out of the door! My husband said to just get on with it. Once I had set up my stand I thought oh well this is not going to be busy but how wrong I was. We didn’t stop chatting to brides all day. I was staggered by the response and the fact other people liked my work. I would say just go for it but make sure you are prepared. Have your branding, have your stand styled in an eye catching way & have something different on your stand-an eye catcher With regards to number of cakes work out your stand size and take it from there. You don’t want it to look cluttered. I had 5 wedding cakes that showed off different skills but that all co-ordinated and approx 100 matching cupcakes. After my experience I say go for it. Remember we are our own worst critics. Mish x ps. Good luck and remember to let us know how you got on

PS if you haven’t read it, the book Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers is well worth a read!

Hi, Thanks for that. I have gone to a few fayre’s to get some ideas and at first I think yeh I can do this, but then when it comes to actually doing something, I think i’m not good enough. I suppose it just takes time to truly believe in the compliments, I am quite a newbie and keep thinking a need more experience- however had an e mail today and one off my cakes is going in the readers section of the cake mag – am so chuffed. I shall chant everyday I can do this lol !!

Hi Sharon
Don’t know if I’ve missed it but couldn’t see when your fayre is booked for. Have you done it? Just wondered how it went. Sue.
