What Size Dowels

Hello

I am about to make my first wedding cake which will be 5 tiers. I noticed when you stack your tiers you use the slim dowels. When my friend cut her cut last week there was very thick dowels holding her cake. Is it just a preference or can you please tell me which ones I should use.

Thank you

Hi Demzy

The dowels which Paul uses and wooden dowels are the most commonly used in our country. However lots of different types of support systems are now available so people are trying them out. You can use the fatter dowels but it will slightly affect the serving size of your cakes. Congratulations on your first wedding cake, and good luck!
