Wine Bottle Shaped Cake

Hi there, I’ve been asked to make a cake for a friends mum. He’s asked if I can make it in the shape of a wine bottle as he said it’s his mums favourite hobby !!
Anyway, if I made a swiss roll to make the shape of the wine bottle, do you think it would be strong enough to ice? Or do you have any tips on how to make the bottle shape ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ps. I made the polka dot hand bag cake recently and my friend loved it.

Thanks
Donna

Hi donnascake

There is a really good champagne bottle cake tutorial by CakesByChoppA on youtube. The demonstrator uses fruit cake but you could use chocolate or madeira, slim the bottle down so it becomes a wine bottle, cover with fondant instead of the buttercream used in the video. It’s a good guide for a stand up bottle cake. Hope you are able to find it on youtube.

Hello Donna, I am making a champagne shaped cake and as you will see I have posted a question re. best way to do this. I copied an image from the web for a champagne bottle, copied this to a word document and cropped any other images on the page and then widened and lenghtened it to be about 12″ long as I measured a wine bottle and that was the length and I just made it about 5 to 5 1/2″ wide. I am now hoping to bake this tomorrow 12″ x 5″ rectangular and hopefully someone on this forum can tell me how long for!! I converted an 8″ cake recipe which I use by googling cakeometer and following instructions from there.
Good luck. Evelyn
