Ben Cullen Cake Tutorial: Meet the Bake King

If you’ve spent any time in the cake decorating world, you’ve almost certainly come across Ben Cullen, better known as The Bake King. His bold designs, larger-than-life personality and unmistakable style have earned him a loyal following across the globe. We have been fortunate enough to know Ben for many years and were delighted to welcome him as a CakeFlix tutor.

Ben has a rare gift for creating cakes that make people stop and smile. Whether he’s sculpting an animal, recreating a famous character or designing something completely unexpected, every cake tells a story. More importantly, his enthusiasm for sharing knowledge is just as impressive as his technical skills.

Many people first discovered Ben through Channel 4’s Extreme Cake Makers, where his creativity and sense of humour made him a firm favourite with viewers. However, long before television, Ben had already built an outstanding reputation within the cake industry.

His talent has been recognised with Gold Awards at Cake International, one of the world’s most prestigious cake competitions. Winning once is an achievement. Winning gold in consecutive years is something very few decorators can claim. Those awards helped establish Ben as one of the UK’s leading cake artists, but they have never changed the person behind the cakes.

One of the reasons we’ve always enjoyed working with Ben is that he’s exactly the same off camera as he is on screen. Friendly, approachable and always willing to encourage other decorators, he’s a great ambassador for the industry. Cake decorating can sometimes feel competitive, yet Ben has always been someone who celebrates other people’s success as much as his own.

That positive attitude comes across in every tutorial he creates. He explains techniques clearly, shares practical tips and gives decorators the confidence to try something new. Whether you’re an enthusiastic beginner or an experienced cake artist looking to expand your skills, there’s always something to learn from watching Ben at work.

Outside CakeFlix, Ben continues to inspire thousands of cake decorators through his popular BakekingTV YouTube channel and his entertaining social media content.
