This week we have put together a collection of our favourite “Bird Cage” cakes. Anything vintage and pretty looking, is always going to be popular with brides and your female customers. Everywhere you look in the high-street, there are vintage style decorative items for your house, gifts or special occasions. After visiting Hobby Craft at the weekend (could get lost in there), we noticed there were lots of vintage accessories ranging from Hessian bunting, pastel rose garlands and decorative bird cages on display. There is no wonder, that this pretty style can now been seen within the cake industry and I cannot wait to show you a few of my favourite bird cage cakes that I found on Pinterest.
PS. If you don’t already have Pinterest, get yourself on there to swoon at all the beautiful cakes out there! Follow us on Pinterest by following this link here.
Bird Cage Cupcakes
How pretty are these little cupcakes? There are various different options you can use when making the cupcakes; the little scalloped bottom edge with hook on the top, looks adorable with different coloured flowers scattered across them. Using contrasting colours for the cage, also really makes it stand out and is absolutely adorable! We really love the idea of using birdcage cupcake liners (centre) for a pretty and vintage look too. We found these bird cage , cupcake liners on amazon here.
Birdcage Cupcake Tower
That follows on nicely, to the ever effective cupcake tower! How beautiful and effective is this? Cupcake towers with an additional cake on the top, is a lovely option for those wanting to dish out a big of cake without having to cut it! Give out the cupcakes instead, and keep the cake for your own use:) Using a decorative, vintage stand like the centre photograph by Cotton and Crumbs, really adds to the vintage effect of the cake. We love it!
Using a Wire Bird Cage
We came across this lovely idea on Pinterest and was blown away by how effective it was! Instead of having a bird cage cake, you could use a bird cage to encase your vintage themed cake. We love how both of these cakes, have accessorised the cage with pretty butterflies. It gives these beautiful 4 tier cakes a lovely feminine and spring like finish!
Hand-Painted Birds and Bird Models
Often or not, the vintage Bird Cage cakes, oddly don’t include little birdies in their cages. However, if you do choose to include birds alongside your bird cage cake, then both these cakes, demonstrate two different ways to add pretty little birds to your cake. I love the photograph on the left, which has hand-painted cakes “inside the cage”. It looks so effective and is a very clever technique! Otherwise why not add pretty bird models to your cake, this is perfect for a bird lover or could act as bride and groom toppers for a wedding cake!?
So if you have a vintage style wedding coming up or are looking for ideas for a baby shower cake, then this maybe your cake design!
